William O'Meara
William O’Meara has performed at festivals and concert series throughout North America, South America and Europe. Among his engagements are included: St. Paul’s Cathedral (London, UK), Trnava Organ Days (Slovakia), Warsaw International Festival of Organ Music (Poland), Turin International Organ Festival (Italy), International Congress of Organists (Montreal), Sao Bento International Organ Festival (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Piccolo Spoleto Festival (Charleston, S.C.), Harvard University Organ Society (Cambridge, MA), Fédération québécoise des amis de l’orgue (Québec) Jack Singer Hall (Calgary), Roy Thomson Hall (Toronto). From 1990 to 2003, he toured regularly with the Laughton & O’Meara trumpet and organ duo performing on scores of concert series throughout the U.S. and Canada as well as for radio and television. As an accompanist, he has worked with several choirs including the Victoria Scholars, the Elmer Iseler Singers and the RIAS Kammerchor. He maintains a busy full-time career as a solo performer and accompanist.
William also has a parallel career improvising accompaniments on piano and organ for silent films (i.e. pre-1930). He has accompanied films for the Toronto International Film Festival, National Gallery of Canada, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Goethe Institute, Toronto Film Society, the Ottawa International Silent Film Festival, Pacific Cinematheque (Vancouver), the Elora Festival, and for the world’s largest festival of silent films, Le Giornate del Cinema Muto (Pordenone, Italy). He is the regular piano accompanist for Cinématheque Ontario (Toronto), the year-round programming arm of the Toronto International Film Festival, with whom he accompanies retrospectives of silent cinema from around the world.
