Gordon Mansell
Gordon D. Mansell is a professional musician engaged in continuing a musical legacy that has been built upon several generations of musicians. Gordon’s Glionna ancestors settled in Toronto in the mid to late part of the 19th century and were well known orchestra musicians and teachers. Gordon was born in Toronto in 1956, and has, since the age of twelve, used his musical heritage and studies from the Royal Conservatory of Music, St. Michael’s Choir School and recently, his University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music academic activities to help him develop a long career as a successful music director, organist, composer and choir director. In April 2006 WholeNote Magazine wrote that “Gordon Mansell is one of the preeminent organists of Toronto.” Throughout his career Gordon has created unique expressions of his passions and skills.
In parallel to Gordon’s music career, he has enjoyed a twenty-five year career in business, primarily in technology and marketing communications, advertising, strategic planning, business development and management. He has served on the board of industry associations and established Creative Folio Advertising, Glionna Mansell Corporation and The Ingenuity Group, a technology “think tank” and a founding member of the technology advocacy group that was established as SMART Toronto, now CATA Alliance.
Gordon Mansell is co-producer of ORGANIX CONCERTS, a yearly month-long music festival showcasing the organ. In May 2008, Gordon will graduate from the Master’s of Music program in organ performance at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music. Mansell has studied organ with Peter Daly, William Wright and John Tuttle. Gordon has also participated in masterclasses with Dame Gillian Weir and Stefan Engels. Gordon lives with his wife and two cats in Toronto’s Bloor West Village.
