Andrei Streliaev
Andrei Streliaev was born in Riga, Latvia. He completed his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at J.Vitols Latvian Academy of Music in 2001 under Arnis Zandmanis. He started studying organ under Vita Kalniema’s guidance at age of fourteen, and continued throughout the years at the Music Academy. In 2002 Andrei moved to Canada, where in 2005 at the University of Toronto he completed the Master of Music Program in Organ Performance under John Tuttle, and in 2006 obtained Advanced Certificate in Harpsichord Performance.
Since moving to Canada, Andrei has been an active performer, as pianist and organist. He often appears in solo recitals, as well as collaborative artist with many ensembles including Ontario Youth Choir, John Laing Singers, Oakville Children’s Choir, the University of Toronto McMillan Singers and Women’s Chorus, and has participated in numerous festivals and competitions, including the Royal Canadian College of Organists International Centennial Festival. Andrei also enjoys working on silent film music, and regularly accompanies films in festivals in Canada and Latvia.
Currently Andrei serves as assistant organist at St. Jude’s Anglican Church in Oakville and works as accompanist for Tafelmusik Chamber Choir and for the Department of Orchestral Studies at the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto. At the same time he is completing Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance program at the University of Toronto. His area of Doctoral Research is organ music in Latvia.
