Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Michael moved to Toronto in 2004 to study trumpet performance at the University of Toronto. He received his Master’s degree in 2006, and completed the requirements for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2011. Prior to coming to Toronto he studied music at the University of Victoria (B.Mus. 2004) and physiology at the University of Saskatchewan (B.Sc. 1999). His classical training has given him a wide range of performance opportunities as a solo, orchestral, and chamber musician with several organizations throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Michael has also become involved in Toronto’s indie-rock scene through his work with the instrumental post-rock group Do Make Say Think with which he has recorded and toured extensively.
