Gordon D. Mansell - Executive Producer, Artistic Director

 

Gordon Mansell is Music Director and Organist at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Toronto where he directs a music program of over 120 singers from five choirs. He is also the Ontario dealer for the world’s largest organ builder, Allen Organ Company. Gordon is Co-founder and executive producer of ORGANIX CONCERTS INC., a wholly owned subsidiary of Glionna Mansell Corporation.

Organist, Composer, Conductor, ORGANIX alumnus and friend, Massimo Nosetti died November 12, 2013, of cancer at the age of 53. Born in Alessandria, Italy, he was titular organist of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the Church of St. Rita in Turin. He taught organ and composition at the conservatory of Cuneo, and led numerous masterclasses in romantic and post-romantic organ literature, especially in Japan, Korea, and the United States.

William O’Meara is organist at St. Michael’s Cathedral. He is also co-founder of ORGANIX. Recently, Bill premiered and recorded an organ concerto Cathedral Architecture by John Burge, and was soloist with the Hannaford Street Silver Band at Ottawa Chamberfest.

Kerry Beaumont – Organ


Kerry Beaumont was born in Cambridge, England, and began his musical education as a chorister at Ripon Cathedral in Yorkshire, starting organ lessons with Ronald Perrin. After his family emigrated to Canada he continued organ studies with Peter Daly (Toronto), John Weaver (Philadelphia), Antoine Reboulot (Quebec) and Pierre Cochereau (France). He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and a Master of Music degree in 20th Century Music and Composition from Durham University (U.K.).

Witold Zalewski – Organ


Witold Zalewski graduated in 1992 from the Academy of Music in Krakow after studying organ performance with Professor Jan Jargoñ. He honed his skills during courses in organ music interpretation, having also studied with J. Laukvik, G. Schneider and J. Guillou. Since 1995, Witold Zalewski has been Principal organist of Wawel Royal Cathedral, Krakow, Poland. He has been a member of the Church Music Council of the Metropolitan Curia of Krakow since 1998. He was the organist of liturgies conducted by the Holy Fathers John Paul II and Benedict XVI during their papal pilgrimages – in the Wawel Royal Cathedral, the Łagiewniki Sanctuary and on Krakow Commons.

JAMES DAVID CHRISTIE is internationally acclaimed as one of the finest organist of his generation. He has performed around the world with symphony orchestras and period instrument ensembles as well as in solo recitals. He has served as organist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1978 and has performed and recorded under many famous conductors including James Levine, Sir Colin Davis, John Williams, Seiji Ozawa and Andrew Davis. This is the second appearance in ORGANIX for James and the first ORGANIX concert at the magnificent organ at St. Basil’s since our first season in 2006. It will be an event to write about!

Shawn Potter – Organ


Shawn Potter holds a master’s degree in organ performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where he studied organ with Hans-Ola Ericsson and John Grew, and harpsichord and continuo with Hank Knox.

Originally from Nova Scotia, Shawn graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in music from Mount Allison University, where he held a Canadian Merit National Scholarship as well as a Mount Allison Bell Scholarship.

Rhonda Sider Edgington is an eclectic musician, with strengths and interests lying in several diverse areas.Through her studies the last five years in Bremen, Germany with Harald Vogel and experience on historic organs in the region, she has acquired an extensive repertoire from Scheidt to CPE Bach. In 2007, she was chosen to play in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam as a finalist in the International Sweelinck Competition, playing a recital of music composed between 1560 and 1660.

Omar Caputi – Organ


Native of Turin, Italy, Omar Caputi is an international concert artist, composer and director. He studied at the “G. F. Ghedini” Conservatory in Cuneo, where he graduated with honours in Organ and Organ Composition. He also studied French baroque music with Françoise Delor and Renè Saorgin, and romantic and modern repertoire with Daniel Roth and Lionel Rogg. This is Omar’s first appearance in ORGANIX. He has been a student of Massimo Nosetti and will perform at the closing ORGANIX 14 Gala in honour of Massimo Nosetti.

Elisabeth Ullmann – Organ


Originally from Zwettl, Lower Austria, Elisabeth Ullmann currently resides in Vienna. She received her musical education at the national music academies in Vienna and Salzburg and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Elisabeth Ullmann has taught music since 1979 at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 1988, she became the first female Full Professor for Artistic Organ Playing in Austria.

Maxine will perform in our closing Gala, a Memorial with Eugenio Fagiani and Omar Caputi to honour the late Massimo Nosetti This will be a tremendous tribute to Massimo and an event not to be missed!

Eugenio Fagiani – Organ


He studied with Enzo Corti in Milan and got an Organ and a Composition Diploma at the "Luca Marenzio" Conservatorium in Brescia. He also graduated in Musicology at the SPFM in Cremona-Pavia University with a graduation thesis on "Marcel Duprè and the art of improvisation". He took part to several specialization courses in interpretation with Nigel Allcoat, Ewald Kooiman, Piet Kee, Daniel Roth, Gillian Weir and Naji Hakim. Later on he specialized in the art of improvisation with: Nigel Allcoat, Jurgen Essl, Peter Planyavsky e Naji Hakim. This is Eugenio’s third ORGANIX appearance and will be to honour our friend, the late Massimo Nosetti in the closing ORGANIX 14 Gala.

Samuel Bisson – Cello


Samuel performs frequently as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. He has performed with renowned Canadian piano trio, the Gryphon Trio and performs regularly as part of the Passport Duo with pianist, Nadia Boucher. Samuel currently holds the position of principal cellist with both the Kindred Spirits Orchestra in Markham, Ontario and the Sneak Peek Orchestra in Toronto. He has also appeared as principal and section cellist with Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and has played under the direction of Timothy Vernon, Pinchas Zukerman and Jean-Philippe Tremblay. Samuel has collaborated in three previous ORGANIX festivals with appearances in ORGANIX 10 and in the ORGANIX Festival Orchestra in 2012 under the direction of Philip Sarabura. In ORGANIX 13 Samuel performed with Wayne Carroll and Alexa Wilks for the trio’s second ORGANIX appearance.
